David Edward Ringrose

SAN ANTONIO - David Edward Ringrose (Dave) passed away peacefully on June 27, 2022, at the age of 82 due to complications of Pneumonia. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. David was a Patriot, loved his Country and loved his military brothers and sisters.

Dave was born in Greenville, North Carolina on February 17, 1940 to Richard and Helen Ringrose. Father, Richard was a research and teaching Professor in the field of animal nutrition. Mother, Helen, was a Dietician, working with public school districts to create nutritious lunches for children.

Dave enjoyed growing up with 2 younger siblings. His sister Marilyn was 2 years younger, and brother Richard (Bruce) was 7 years younger. The family moved to Durham, New Hampshire in the early 1940s, where Dave attended elementary, middle and high school. Durham was a great place to be for a boy growing up. Dave loved all things outdoors. He hunted, played ice hockey and loved animals... especially his dogs and later the horses he and his family owned.

Dave's high school years took him through the ROTC program. After working a few different jobs following high school, Dave enlisted in the United States Army in August, 1961. One of his first assignments was in Germany, but upon returning to the United States, he married his sweetheart of four years, Sandra (Sandy) Daneault, in 1963.

Dave and Sandy had 2 daughters. Karen in 1964 and Kathleen in 1965. After a few, very brief, assignments at bases in Washington State, Louisiana and Kentucky, the family moved to Ft. Benning, Georgia.

At Ft. Benning, Dave completed the Infantry's Officer Candidate School, graduating in June, 1965. David served multiple tours in Vietnam and then an assignment in Korea before returning to Ft. Benning. In the years that followed, Dave served in various capacities at the Infantry School.

In 1977, Dave's last assignment took him to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He had the rare privilege of working with the Modern Pentathletes and their horses used for competition. Dave retired from the Army in August 1981.

During his Army career he was awarded the following medals and badges, as well as numerous letters of praise for excellence in performance: Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal First Class, Driver and Mechanic Badge.

David is survived by both his daughters, Karen Morris (James) of Yukon, OK, and Kathi Bull of League City, Tx, his granddaughter Hannah Morris Eads (Scott) of Dallas, Tx, his brother Richard Bruce Ringrose (Port St. Lucie, FL) as well as 3 nephews, 1 niece and 2 great granddaughters.

David is preceded in death by his wife Sandy, his parents, Richard and Helen Ringrose, and his sister Marilyn Sechler.
